Life in Ulaanbaatar
Outside view of the typical Ulaanbaatar apartment building where we used to live
Most people in Ulaanbaatar live in older Soviet-style apartment blocks. Individual apartments are sometimes renovated quite nicely, but hallways and other public areas can be less than pleasant. The most important quality measure of an Ulaanbaatar apartment is its heating. The heat in these buildings comes from the city, and there are no controls. Therefore one is at the mercy of The System for decent heat. We are lucky as we seem to live close to a heating plant, so our place tends to be 25°C in winter, but less fortunate souls have to live with 10°. The System turns on the heat on September 15, and off again on May 15, irrespective of the outside temperature. As a result it was +30 inside in early May when it was +20 out, and +15 in late May, when it starting snowing again. This year it got warm in February, so the System turned off some of the boilers.
Sukhbaatar Square
Sukhbaatar is Mongolia's national hero who liberated Mongolia from Chinese rule and called in the Soviet Red Army in the early 1920s. His statue still adorns Ulaanbaatar's central square. In the background stands the Opera House, where during the winter season one can watch excellent ballet and opera performances.

Uvurhangai aimag Population (thousand): 114Square kilometers (thousand sq. km): 62,9Administrative center: ArvaiheerDistance from UB (km): 430Annual mean temperature (°C): 0,8Annual average precipitation (millimeters): 247,2Annual wind velocity (meters per sec): 3,8Total local herds (million): 1,6Main Attractions1. Hugnuhaan (Khugnu Khan) Natural ReserveThe Natural Reserve covers 469.9 sq kilometers of land and has enjoyed the State Protection since 1997. Two or three different natural zones are represented in this area: taiga and steppe zones. This granite mountain has gorgeous look and has significant historical background. For instance, there are a couple of old Mongolian monasteries up in the mountain; one of which has been renovated and is open to public.2. Elsen Tasarhai It is incredibly formed sand dunes extending about 80 kilometers not too far from the Hugnuhaan Natural Reserve. Although the sand dune itself is not very big, the formation is magnificent; there are trees growing on the dune and a small lake flowing nearby.3. Erdenezuu MonasteryIt was the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, erected on the initiative of Abtai Sain Khan in 1586 on the base of Harhorin (Kharkhorum or Karakorum), the 13th century capital of Mongolia. The monastery has a rectangular shaped perimeter wall of 400 meters each side. There are four gates at each side and 108 stupas around the wall. The current monastery mainly operates as a museum which has unique exhibits such as various Buddhist images and sculptures, religious costumes and musical instruments, and natural drawings from the 17-18th centuries.4. Harhorin (Kharkhorum or Karakorum)City ruin. The city was established in 1220 and had been the capital of Mongolia for 140 years and the capital of Mongolian Empire for 32 years. It was destroyed by the soldiers of Ming Dynasty in the 14th century. Because of several reasons, scientists still debate on the real spelling of the city name. The ruin of the city has enjoyed the State protection since 1961 and was registered as a world heritage by UNESCO along with Erdenezuu monastery in 1996. The territory always has been an attraction for scientists from all over the world.5. Asralt Hairhan Uul (Mountain)It is the highest peak, 2800 meters above the sea level, of the Hentii mountain range. You can see glacial kar and moraine there. The tributaries of Zaan and Nemeh rivers flow down from the eastern and southern slopes of the mountain. It is reachable by jeep, but with considerable difficulty.6. Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall (Orhonii Hurhree)The height of the waterfall is 20 meters, and the width is 10 meters. Because there are not many waterfalls in Mongolia, Orhon waterfall has been considered to be one of the most famous destinations of the country regardless of its size. In recent years , due to the climate change and human wrong activities, the water source of the fall has decreased tremendously.7. Black ruin of Orhon Valley (Har balgas)It is ruin of the capital of Uighur State from the 9th century. The capital city was built in 751 and had been one of the main passing cities and trade centers of the famous Silk Road. It is considered that Har Balgas and Harhorin were the controllers of the northern part of the Silk Road for 400 years. There are ruins of a castle, fortress, horse barn, storage houses and more in Har Balgas. It was registered as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1996 and has been protected by the State since 1971.8. Tuvhen hiid (Tuvkhem Monestry)It was erected in 1654 on flattened ground of the south slope of steep rock with the height of 20 meters and had 14 temples. Zanabazar created a number of his works including the famous Soyombo symbols in this monastery in the 1680s. The remains of the monastery have enjoyed the State protection since 1998 and were registered as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1996. It is hard to reach the monastery special if it is rainy.9. Shireet Tsagaan Nuur (Lake)It contains three small lakes that are located on Mongol Els and in the east southern bottom of Ih Mongol Mountain. When Undur Gegeen Zanabazar was first proclaimed as the first Bogd (Head) of Mongolian Buddhist religion in 1639 at the age of five, a palace with yellow girdle was built on the coast of this lake. This palace was the foundation of our capital city Ulaanbaatar. Moreover, the place has characteristics of the Gobi, Hangai and alpine regions; lizards run on the sand, while cuckoo twitters in the bushes and juniper grows in the mountain. The fact that all of these happen only in a small spot, and also our ancestors picked this uncommon spot to establish the capital city is admirable. Undur Gegeen Zanabazar blessed the juniper in Ih Mongol Mountain by himself, and it is said that no other juniper has been sanctified in its growing mountain.

Orhon aimag is the most modern city in the Mongolia. Orhon aimag was established in 1994. A rich deposit of copper and molybdenum was discovered by Mongolian, Russian and Czechoslovakian geologists in the territory of the aimag in 1967-1970. In 1974 building of a Soviet-Mongolian copper ore dressing "Erdenet" enterprise began. Now the enterprise is considered one of the ten biggest plants in the world. That was the first step of new city Erdenet. The enterprise is very important in terms of economics and produces 25% of total budget, 51.5% of the total national export products. Previously Orkhon aimag was a part of Bulgan aimag so the biodiversity and climate are almost the same as Bulgan.

The aimag has two administrative units - Bayan-Undur and Jargalan soums and 11 bags. The main branches of construction materials, light-and food industry have a capacity to process 20000 tons of ore. The Power Plant can produce 117,4 mln kw/hour of electric power. The "Erdenet carpet factories"capable of producing 1300 thousand cubic meters of carpets. "Erdenet food" Co.,Ltd has a capacity of producing 4643 tons of bread, 500 tons of baked goods, 500 thousand litres of vodka, 4000 thousand litre a of soft drinks, 3000 thousand litres of milk and dairy products. "Mongol Shines"house-building company is able to produce 80,0 thousand cubic meters of wood, 100 thousand square meters of window frames and doors and 200 thousand square meters of housing. Other large companies such as "Zandan", "Erdenet-Nooluur","Erdenet Metall", "Erdmin" are successfully operating in the aimag as well. As a result, 50 various kinds of industrial products, 437,7 thousand tons of copper concentrate, 3000 tons of pure copper, over 20 tons of cashmere, over 500 thousand square kilometers of carpets, about 50 cubic meters of wool are produced annually, so that Erdenet produces 38,4 percent of all national manufactured goods and 51,1 percent in Orkhon aimag.i proud of my hometown.

The Great Wall
The Great wall of china was built during the time of the in Dynasty.Emperor Qin had an advisor called Lisi hated the work og Confucius and other scholars. In 213 B.C hi ordered all the books in the empire that were not about medicine, agriculture, or prophecy, to be burned.
Some of the scholars who were punished because of thier writings were sent to work on the emperor's huge building project. this project was later called great wall of China.
The great wall of china still stands. it goes through the mountains of northern china and is more that 1500miles long. the wall was built for two reasons. First, it was meant to keep the farmers from leaving their lands and becoming nomads, second, it was built to keep out the enemy.
To complete this massive structure, a crew of 300000 men were used. the wall is nearly 30 feet hifh, and in some places it is wide enough to allow five horses to run side by side.
Crime in Mongolia.
Nowadays, A lot of crime reported in the media in Mongolia. There are fraud, blackmail, robbery, burglary, forger, murder or mugger etc. At the same time a lot of financial crimes are being uncovered in the middleclass.
Another probelm is crime through the internet. it can have different form, stealing money from bank accounts and secret information various forms of propaganda etc.
Unfortunately women have always been the violence of rape and domestic violence. also forgery has been around ever since printing has been used to make money or produce documents in mongolia.
in addition armed robbery is a more recent phenomenon. there are lot of pick pockets in black markets such as Narantuul, Kharkhorin, and other big markets etc.
there are a lot of reasons crime in Mongolia. Also crime is caused by different factors bioligocal, psychological, cultural, economic, and political. i think that one of the reasons crime has increased is that children are not brought up properly by their parents. there are many poor people, street children, alcoholic drinks, and they are treated badly society. Economic recession certainly contributes to the rise crime. The lawyers provide laws which will help people to live safely. although laws are made by people the law is not enough in Mongolia.

dornod

Dornod Aimag is one of the 21 aimags (provinces) of Mongolia, located in the east of the country. Its capital is Choibalsan. The aimag was created during the administrative reorganisation of 1941 with the name of Choibalsan, after the communist leader Khorloogiin Choibalsan. The capital, which previously had been called Bayan Tümen, also received the name Choibalsan. In 1963, the aimag was given the current name Dornod. With 123,600 km2 of grassy steppe where Mongolia, China and the Russian Federation meet, Dornod Aimag is the largest in eastern Mongolia. The Kherlen and Ulz rivers flow east through the aimag. There are also wetlands and lake areas, the largest being Lake Buir in the far east. One of Dornod Aimag was the site of a series of decisive battles that thwarted a Japanese invasion in 1939. Our country is famous for Buir nuur, khalkh gol, steppe of Menen and Kherlen Bars city.
• Khokh Nuur. The lowest point in Mongolia is Khokh Nuur (Blue Lake), a medium-sized freshwater lake at 560m altitude. Other than the thrill of standing in the lowest part of the country, there isn't much to keep you here, though the lake has a subtle beauty and you could combine it with an exploration of the Wall of Chinggis Khaan. The lake is also an important migration point for birds and you can spot many waders and shore birds here.

• Buir Nuur. This beautiful lake is the largest in eastern Mongolia (the northern shore is actually in China). The surrounding countryside is mostly grassland, though there are a few trees. The lake has a maximum depth of 50m
• Khalkhin Gol. The banks of the Khalkhin Gol, in the far eastern part of Dornod, are of particular interest to war historians because of the battles against the Japanese in 1939. The memorials are real socialist masterpieces, built to honour the Russian and Mongolian soldiers who died here. The largest memorial is the 50m Khamar Davaa. A museum in Siimber (also known as Tsagaannuur), and a smaller one in Choibalsan, offer some explanations (in Mongolian) about the history of the battles.

Uvurhangai aimag
Population (thousand): 114Square kilometers (thousand sq. km): 62,9Administrative center: ArvaiheerDistance from UB (km): 430Annual mean temperature (°C): 0,8Annual average precipitation (millimeters): 247,2Annual wind velocity (meters per sec): 3,8Total local herds (million): 1,6

Main Attractions
1. Hugnuhaan (Khugnu Khan) Natural Reserve
The Natural Reserve covers 469.9 sq kilometers of land and has enjoyed the State Protection since 1997. Two or three different natural zones are represented in this area: taiga and steppe zones. This granite mountain has gorgeous look and has significant historical background. For instance, there are a couple of old Mongolian monasteries up in the mountain; one of which has been renovated and is open to public.
2. Elsen Tasarhai
It is incredibly formed sand dunes extending about 80 kilometers not too far from the Hugnuhaan Natural Reserve. Although the sand dune itself is not very big, the formation is magnificent; there are trees growing on the dune and a small lake flowing nearby.
3. Erdenezuu Monastery
It was the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, erected on the initiative of Abtai Sain Khan in 1586 on the base of Harhorin (Kharkhorum or Karakorum), the 13th century capital of Mongolia. The monastery has a rectangular shaped perimeter wall of 400 meters each side. There are four gates at each side and 108 stupas around the wall. The current monastery mainly operates as a museum which has unique exhibits such as various Buddhist images and sculptures, religious costumes and musical instruments, and natural drawings from the 17-18th centuries.

4. Harhorin (Kharkhorum or Karakorum)
City ruin. The territory always has been an attraction for scientists from all over the world.

5. Asralt Hairhan Uul (Mountain)

It is the highest peak, 2800 meters above the sea level, of the Hentii mountain range. You can see glacial kar and moraine there. The tributaries of Zaan and Nemeh rivers flow down from the eastern and southern slopes of the mountain. It is reachable by jeep, but with considerable difficulty.

6. Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall (Orhonii Hurhree)

The height of the waterfall is 20 meters, and the width is 10 meters. Because there are not many waterfalls in Mongolia, Orhon waterfall has been considered to be one of the most famous destinations of the country regardless of its size. In recent years , due to the climate change and human wrong activities, the water source of the fall has decreased tremendously.

7. Black ruin of Orhon Valley (Har balgas)

It is ruin of the capital of Uighur State from the 9th century. It was registered as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1996 and has been protected by the State since 1971.

8. Tuvhen hiid (Tuvkhem Monestry)

It was erected in 1654 on flattened ground of the south slope of steep rock with the height of 20 meters and had 14 temples. Zanabazar created a number of his works including the famous Soyombo symbols in this monastery in the 1680s. The remains of the monastery have enjoyed the State protection since 1998 and were registered as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1996. It is hard to reach the monastery special if it is rainy.
9. Shireet Tsagaan Nuur (Lake)
It contains three small lakes that are located on Mongol Els and in the east southern bottom of Ih Mongol Mountain.

My city

On 17 October, 1961, the foundation of Darkhan city was laid in the economically favorable land of Darkhan somon, in Selenge aimag.

The somon was abolished and the settlement came under the new Darkhan Administration, in 1963. Joint-ventures with the assistance of former socialist countries were set up in Darkhan in 1970 - 1990, that have significantly contributed to the city's development and today it is a highly industrialized region of Mongolia. As Darkhan aimag used to be a part of Selenge aimag, biodiversity and climate are quite similar to those in Selenge. 76 percent of the population of Darkhan - Uul aimag live in Darkhan, of which 86 percent lives in residential apartments.

Darkhan-Uul province lies between the Khangai and Khentii mountain ranges in the Orkhon and Selenge’s vast river valleys. In the 32,750 square kilometers of this province there are many places of great natural beauty. The province’s territory is located 700 meters above sea level. Darkhan has a continental climate with average summertime temperatures reaching 25 to 30 Celsius and winter temperatures between minus 10 to 30 degrees Celsius. Darkhan has over 260 sunny days per year.
By the end of the year 2004, the province population was 90,400 with people originating from every corner of Mongolia. Like the Mongolian population as a whole, most of the residents of Darkhan are young people.

Darkhan has rich natural resources and mineral deposits as well as an abundance of vegetation and wildlife. There are protected animals such as sable, deer, elk, beaver, and the sturgeon, which are registered in the Red Book - a listing of endangered species in Mongolia. The Darkhan-Selenge region, a comparatively well-studied area of Mongolia, is known to have rich deposits of coal, copper, and iron ore despite the fact that exploration work is not complete. There are also construction materials such as limestone, marble, sand, gravel, and straw. For further economic expansion of Darkhan, these rich resources are awaiting development on the basis of advanced, environmentally friendly technologies.

Darkhan-Uul Aimag’s infrastructure includes paved roads, an international railway, modern telecommunication systems and reliable energy sources. It is well connected by the main railway system to Russia and China with a north-south railroad through Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan City. Recently paved roads connect Darkhan to Russia as well as Ulaanbaatar, the capital city, and Erdenet, the third largest city in Mongolia. Internet and satellite cable TV transmissions and cell phone services are also available.

Darkhan was built as the foundation for Mongolia’s major industries, particularly construction materials. Beginning in 1962, Mongolian and Soviet workers started the construction of Darkhan’s first industrial facilities. The development of these industrial facilities was made possible through technical and financial assistance from various former socialist countries such as the Soviet Union, Hungary, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. There is an industrial district in Darkhan that includes a cement factory, a steel plant built in 1990 with Japanese assistance and a sheepskin-processing factory. The food production industry is well developed and is comprised of a of meat processing factory, flour mill, and small-scale producers of bakery products, confectionery, dairy products, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. In recent years, small and medium sized enterprises have been rapidly expanding. The number of new businesses, which have opened in the last few years, is 732 companies. Darkhan has a Chamber of Commerce and Industry made up of 93 members.

Darkhan is situated in the agricultural heartland of Mongolia. Darkhan Uul Aimag is the major agricultural producer in Mongolia with rich resources for agricultural development. This area, located at a low level of altitude, has a warmer climate than the rest of the country. In the Kharaa River basin there are favorable natural climatic conditions for the cultivation of cereals, vegetables, and especially potatoes. There are 35 agricultural companies and co-operatives in Darkhan Uul Aimag. This area contains 30,000 hectares of soil suitable for arable farming and 1287.8 thousand hectares for vegetable farming. Despite the development of the urban economy, local people continue to keep livestock. There are approximately 130,000 head of livestock in the province.

Darkhan is the second largest educational center in Mongolia, making the educational level of the city’s population very high. Hundreds of students come to Darkhan from other parts of Mongolia to study. Currently in Darkhan Uul Aimag there are 10 higher education institutions, 25 secondary schools, 14 kindergartens, the Institute of Management and Development, the Regional Business Development Center and the Plant Science and Agricultural Training Research Institute.

Tourists who visit Darkhan can expect to find fresh air, blue skies, a quiet environment, and plenty of open space to enjoy many outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing. Places of interest accessible from Darkhan City include Zulzagiin Gol, an area of natural beauty 30km to the east, and Amarbayasgalant Khiid one of the largest and most important monasteries in Mongolia approximately 3 hours drive to the west.

Arkhangai aimag was formed from parts of the Tsetserleg Mandal Uulyn aimag in 1931. At that time, the aimag had 35 sums, 65,333 inhabitants in 22,285 households, and 1,800,000 head of livestock. The aimag center Tsetserleg was established at the site of the Zaya Khüree monastery, which had been first founded in 1586.our aimag has got many rivers. The rivers are Chuluut, Khanui, and Tamir have their origins in the valleys of the Khangai Mountains. Together with some smaller tributaries they all belong to the watershed of the Selenge. The Orkhon also traverses the eastern end of the aimag for a short stretch.
The lake Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur is located in the west. According to a legend it was created when a giant took a large rock and threw it away. Looking back he saw a white surface and exclaimed in surprise, "Look, a white lake!" The exclamation has become the name of the lake. The rock ended up farther to the east and is called Taikhar Chuluu. The small lake Ögii Nuur is located in the eastern part of the aimag in the Sum of the same name.our aimag is very beautiful nature.

The Selenge Aimag is located in the northern part of Mongolia in the beautiful basin of Orkhon and Selenga rivers. It borders on north with the Russian Autonomous Republic of Buryatia. The territory of the Selenge aimag is divided into 17 soums, 3 towns and 3 villages. The Selenge aimag has relatively better developed agriculture, industry and infrastructure than other aimags of Mongolia. The Selenge aimag produces 40 to 56 per cent of grain of Mongolia.Selenge aimag’s population is 94,590.There is a lot to see in Selenge. You can see Altanbulag’s museum,Russia and Mongolian border and Amarbayasgalant monastery. The star attraction of Selenge aimag, this monastery is considered the second most important in Mongolia (after Erdene Zuu Khiid in Kharkhorin) and the most intact architectural complex in Mongolia. The communists found a way out here in the late 1930s, but 'only' destroyed 10 out of the 37 temples and statues, possibly because of sympathetic and procrastinating local military commanders. The monastery was extensively restored between 1975 and 1990 with the help of Unesco.
